General planning information. Your procedure, anesthesia, recovery, and results depend on your health and treatment plan. Returning to work does not mean full healing.

About the procedure

A brow lift raises descended brow tissue. This may reduce heaviness above the eyes, but upper eyelid excess and eyelid muscle weakness need separate assessment. Endoscopic and open approaches differ in incision placement and the amount of access they provide.

Hairline height, hair density, brow shape, and facial movement affect the choice of technique. Incisions can produce visible scars or hair changes. Injectable treatments can soften some expression lines, but they do not provide the same tissue repositioning as surgery.

Good candidates

  • Sagging eyebrows that crowd the upper lids
  • Deep horizontal forehead lines or frown lines
  • A tired or stern look that does not match how you feel
  • Patients whose upper lid hooding starts at the brow

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation. Dr. Huson will tell you honestly if a different approach would serve you better.

What to expect

  1. Your consultation

The consultation reviews your goals, medical history, medications, nicotine use, and examination findings. Discuss alternatives, the proposed setting and anesthesia, realistic changes, costs, and the support you will need during recovery.

  2. The procedure

Endoscopic or open incisions allow brow tissue to be released and repositioned. Hairline height, forehead anatomy, and the degree of correction determine the access and fixation method.

  3. Recovery

Bruising, swelling, scalp numbness, and tightness can affect the first weeks. Some sensory changes last longer. Ask when hair care, desk work, and exercise can resume.

Risks and limitations

  • Changes to the hairline, hair loss around incisions, visible scars, and scalp numbness can occur.
  • Nerve injury, brow asymmetry, eye irritation, and the need for revision are possible.

This is not a complete list. Your clinician should explain the risks of the specific procedure and anesthesia, including bleeding, infection, healing problems, and any medical factors that change your risk.

Other options

An injectable may soften selected expression lines temporarily. Eyelid surgery may be more appropriate for excess lid skin with a normally positioned brow. A consultation distinguishes these causes.

Planning your consultation

Bring your medication list and relevant medical history. Ask about the facility, anesthesia team, follow-up, time away from work, and help at home. Request an itemized estimate covering the procedure, anesthesia, facility, and any additional care; confirm coverage directly if insurance may apply.

Common questions

Bring the rest to your consultation. There is no such thing as too many.

Will I look surprised?

The aim is a brow position that fits your face. Overcorrection, asymmetry, and changes in expression are possible and should be discussed.

Is there a nonsurgical alternative?

Injectable treatments may soften selected expression lines or produce a small temporary brow change. They cannot reproduce a surgical lift.

Can brow and eyelid surgery be combined?

Sometimes, after assessing how each contributes to the concern and whether a combined recovery is appropriate.
