General planning information. Your procedure, anesthesia, recovery, and results depend on your health and treatment plan. Returning to work does not mean full healing.

About the procedure

A deep plane facelift lifts facial tissues beneath the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, often called the SMAS. Releasing selected attachments allows the surgeon to reposition tissues and remove excess skin. Other facelift techniques also address deeper support, so the best approach depends on anatomy and goals rather than the technique name alone.

A facelift can improve lower facial sagging, but it does not stop aging or treat every concern around the eyes, skin surface, or facial volume. Dr. Huson offers office procedures for selected patients; the consultation determines the appropriate setting and anesthesia. A natural appearance is the aim, and no technique guarantees a particular result.

Good candidates

  • Sagging in the midface, jawline, or neck
  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth
  • Loss of jawline definition or jowls
  • Good general health and a stable weight

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation. Dr. Huson will tell you honestly if a different approach would serve you better.

Before & after

What to expect

  1. Your consultation

The consultation reviews your goals, medical history, medications, nicotine use, and examination findings. Discuss alternatives, the proposed setting and anesthesia, realistic changes, costs, and the support you will need during recovery.

  2. The procedure

The surgeon accesses deeper facial tissues through incisions around the ears and hairline, releases selected attachments, repositions the tissues, and trims excess skin. The exact dissection and any neck treatment are individualized.

  3. Recovery

Bruising, swelling, tightness, and altered sensation can last for weeks. Return to work depends on healing and how visible your work is. Follow your surgeon’s instructions for wound care, exercise, and follow-up; a two-week milestone is not full recovery.

Risks and limitations

  • Bleeding under the skin, skin loss or delayed healing, and noticeable scars can require treatment.
  • Facial nerve injury can affect movement; numbness, hairline changes, asymmetry, or revision surgery are possible.

This is not a complete list. Your clinician should explain the risks of the specific procedure and anesthesia, including bleeding, infection, healing problems, and any medical factors that change your risk.

Other options

A neck lift may suit isolated neck concerns. Eyelid surgery, skin treatment, or volume restoration address different causes of an aged appearance. Observation and no treatment are also valid choices.

Planning your consultation

Bring your medication list and relevant medical history. Ask about the facility, anesthesia team, follow-up, time away from work, and help at home. Request an itemized estimate covering the procedure, anesthesia, facility, and any additional care; confirm coverage directly if insurance may apply.

Common questions

Bring the rest to your consultation. There is no such thing as too many.

Will I look pulled or overdone?

A natural appearance is the aim, but no technique can guarantee it. Tissue tension, asymmetry, scars, and the amount of change should be discussed before surgery.

How long does a facelift last?

Improvement can last for years, but aging continues. Skin quality, sun exposure, weight changes, and the extent of surgery influence how the face changes over time.

Can it be combined with other procedures?

Sometimes. Neck or eyelid surgery and fat transfer treat different concerns. Combining procedures changes operating time and recovery, and separate stages may be preferable.
