General planning information. Your procedure, anesthesia, recovery, and results depend on your health and treatment plan. Returning to work does not mean full healing.

About the procedure

A mommy makeover is a name for a treatment plan, not a fixed operation. It may include abdominal contouring, a breast lift or augmentation, and selected liposuction. The aim is to address specific concerns rather than promise a return to an exact pre-pregnancy body.

Timing depends on recovery from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight stability, health, and future pregnancy plans. Combining procedures lengthens surgery and recovery, so separate stages may be more appropriate. Plan for help with children and household tasks while lifting is restricted.

Good candidates

  • Loose abdominal skin and separated muscles after pregnancy
  • Deflated or sagging breasts after nursing
  • Stubborn fat that diet and exercise have not moved
  • Finished having children, at a stable weight

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation. Dr. Huson will tell you honestly if a different approach would serve you better.

What to expect

  1. Your consultation

The consultation reviews your goals, medical history, medications, nicotine use, and examination findings. Discuss alternatives, the proposed setting and anesthesia, realistic changes, costs, and the support you will need during recovery.

  2. The procedure

A plan may combine abdominal surgery with a breast lift, augmentation, or selected liposuction. The procedures can be staged or combined after considering health, operating time, and recovery demands.

  3. Recovery

Arrange help with children, lifting, and household tasks. Recovery follows the most restrictive part of the plan, not the shortest advertised recovery. Walking and clot prevention instructions, medication use, and follow-up should be discussed before surgery.

Risks and limitations

  • Combining operations increases the recovery burden and can increase risk, including clots and wound problems.
  • The plan also carries the specific risks of each component, such as implant complications, nipple changes, or abdominal wound separation.

This is not a complete list. Your clinician should explain the risks of the specific procedure and anesthesia, including bleeding, infection, healing problems, and any medical factors that change your risk.

Other options

One priority procedure or separate stages may be more suitable than a combined operation. Waiting until health, weight, and family support are appropriate is a valid option.

Planning your consultation

Bring your medication list and relevant medical history. Ask about the facility, anesthesia team, follow-up, time away from work, and help at home. Request an itemized estimate covering the procedure, anesthesia, facility, and any additional care; confirm coverage directly if insurance may apply.

Common questions

Bring the rest to your consultation. There is no such thing as too many.

Should I wait until after future pregnancies?

Another pregnancy can change the result. Timing is usually discussed after breastfeeding and weight have stabilized and future pregnancy plans are considered.

Can everything be done at once?

Not always. Medical risk, operating time, and recovery demands may make separate stages more appropriate.

Will this restore my pre-pregnancy body?

It can address specific changes, but an exact earlier body shape cannot be recreated or guaranteed.
